NFL: Dolphins lose two draft picks after investigation

NFL: Dolphins lose two draft picks after investigation

Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has been arrested and fined $1.5 million by the NFL for raiding Tom Brady and Sean Payton.

The punishment was announced after a six-month investigation stemming from a lawsuit brought by coach Brian Flores against the Tour over racial discrimination.

The league concluded that the Dolphins did not intentionally lose any games during the 2019 season, but found that it had blocked deals with Brady and his agent Don Yee, among other things. The NFL announced the results of its investigation Tuesday.

Dolphins also lost their first-round picks 2023 and 2024 in the third round.

Ross is suspended until October 17. He may not visit team facilities or represent the team in any team or league activities. He was also banned from attending all NFL meetings until the 2023 Annual Assembly and was removed from all district committees until further notice.

The investigation concluded that the dolphins violated the association’s policy on three occasions against the raid. Dolphins allegedly had illegal contact with Brady possibly as early as August 2019 and during the 2020 qualifiers, when he was under contract with the New England Patriots.

Dolphins vice president and minority partner Bruce Beal has been fined $500,000 and will be banned from NFL meetings through the end of the year.

The Dolphins then spoke with Brady and his agent in December 2021 and after the campaign, while he was still under contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

These discussions were regarding the possibility of Brady buying team shares and becoming a member of the management. The possibility that he also plays with Dolphins has reportedly been discussed. The association claimed that Ross and Bell were involved in those discussions.

The third incident concerns Payton. Dolphins reportedly spoke with Yee in January regarding the possible appointment of Payton as head coach. The Dolphins did not ask permission from the New Orleans Saints to speak on the matter, and conversations took place before Payton announced he was retiring.
