Nate Shennar is subject to exemptions from Canadians

When we think back to the transactions that the Canadian completed at the last trade deadline, those transactions involving Artturi Lehkonen, Ben Chiarot and Brett Kulak are what quickly come to mind. All three were regulars in the squad and were pretty solid in the months leading up to their trading day.

However, there was another trade that did not have much success: the one that sent Andrew Hammond to New Jersey for the young Nate Schnard. We’re not talking about a major league deal, of course, but the Devils needed a goalkeeper and CH took the opportunity to get a little boost for Laval’s rocket.

Shenar is still with the Montreal organization today, having participated in the team’s training camp. However, Al-Kindi had just announced that the name Shnnar had been submitted to concessions.

This means that the other 31 formations of Bettman’s circuit can claim him and add him to their NHL formation. However, do not hold your breath: let’s say that Shignar is unlikely to be claimed tomorrow.

And in the (quite likely) case where it went unclaimed, Schnard took Laval’s direction, having done so well during his time with the rocket last year. He had 10 points in 20 regular season games and added four more points in 11 games during the team’s playoff round.

Obviously, therefore, we can suspect that Rocket would like to find the one who played alongside Nick Suzuki with Guelph Storm at OHL.

At 23, the chances of seeing Schnarr prove himself in the NHL one day don’t seem very high. However, he’s still an interesting player who can do good hockey for the AHL team, and if he eventually takes another step forward, he can help out in the NHL for a few games.

In short, we’ll see if Schnard makes a claim tomorrow, but I expect to see him go all the way to Laval. To continue, so.
