On Sunday, June 26, the Bernard Chambas pétanque district opened, located in the Coin de parc on rue Joseph-Lemarchand. Six new pétanques, opened with great fanfare and music with Harmonie magnycoise, by Mayor Bertrand Huilon (Génération.s), accompanied by elected officials, residents and members of the Friends of Pétanque.
The name was chosen in honor of Bernard Champas, who died in 2021, a Magnyc personality invested in local life. He has been president of the Les Amis de la pétanque volunteer association since 2013.
In his inaugural address, the mayor, Bertrand Houillon (Génération.s), began by honoring Bernard Chambas, “a passionate and volunteer who did not count his time to participate in city events, telethon, or even organize a trip to an international competition”. The city councilor went on to explain that “thanks to him, the Petanque Club now has nearly 70 members.”

The new Bernard Chambas Petanque (partly funded by the district), in addition to the Petanque grounds made entirely by municipal officials, has a picnic table accessible to people with reduced mobility (PRM) as well as a 30 square meter space where football fans can The railroad stored their equipment and made use of the restrooms.

The Petanque area is located in a botanical area with native species according to the guidelines of the nature park. “We will add several trees in the fall.
