How to use your iPhone or Android device to alert someone you love that you need help in an emergency

Apple has an Emergency SOS feature on most iPhones.

When you use this feature, your local emergency number will be called and your emergency contacts will be alerted via SMS.

Your location and any changes to it will also be shared with your emergency contacts.

To set up emergency contacts on your iPhone, open the Health app, then go to your profile picture, then Medical ID. Select Edit, then scroll down to Emergency Contacts.

From there, tap Add, then choose a contact. You can also add your relationship with this person.

Make sure to click the Done button to save your changes.

You can access Emergency SOS feature on iPhone iOs 7 and earlier by quickly pressing the top or side button five times in a row.

On iPhone 8 and later, you can press the side button and the volume button at the same time to access the feature.

Android devices are a little different, although the idea of ​​an emergency SOS feature remains the same.

However, the feature must be configured manually. To do this, you can go to your phone’s Settings, select Security and Emergency, and then choose Emergency SOS.

From here, you can customize what Android does when the Emergency SOS feature is activated.

You can choose to sound an alert or keep your phone on silent. You can also choose to have your phone call an emergency number, alert emergency contacts, share location, and more.

On Android, you can access Emergency SOS by pressing the power button five times in quick succession.
