Two employees of Lululemon’s US branch were reportedly fired after trying to prevent a robbery at the sportswear store.

The incident occurred in late April at a branch in Peachtree Corners, Georgia. It is said that the two employees first told the criminals to leave, and then chased them when they fled with unpaid items.

However, the company has very strict instructions for its employees regarding behavior that could put them at risk. So it is forbidden for employees to interfere in case of burglary.

“In this particular case, we have a zero-tolerance policy that we train teachers for in the event of theft. Why? Because we put the safety of our team and customers first,” Lululemon CEO Calvin McDonald said in an interview with CNBC.

The latter is therefore categorical, and the company will not reconsider its decision to dismiss employees.

The two employees at the Peachtree Corners, Georgia location were not fired for calling the police. “Employees are able to call 911 when needed, which is not a reason for termination,” Lululemon said in a statement sent to CNN.

To explain these dismissals, the company cites security reasons because these employees risked putting themselves in danger, but also endangering the safety of others.
