After Baby Yoda’s long reign, a new alien is about to invade Disney+: Groot, and his cute adventures will begin this August.
The first teaser for My Name is Groot, the animated spin-off of the Guardians of the Galaxy saga starring a little tree and space hero with a single-section retort, was released this Friday during a Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
These first photos reveal that Groot, in his mischievous kid version, is busy growing up among the stars… while getting into trouble! Five original short films were planned in which new and unusual characters appear.
But that’s not all: The panel also revealed that after the first five episodes, My Name is Groot will return in additional short adventures at a later, but unknown, date.
Originally created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby in the 1960s comics, Astonish talesGroot – voiced in the MCU by Vin Diesel – is an extraterrestrial creature known to be particularly friendly and often innocent… except perhaps in his teenage version!
Although he is extremely intelligent, he can only utter one sentence, “My name is Groot,” words that mean a lot and are miraculously understood by those around him – notably his sidekick, Rocket Raccoon, who is perfectly voiced by Bradley Cooper.
While waiting for Guardians of the Galaxy 3, scheduled for May 3, 2023, my name is Groot – which is thus Marvel Studios’ second animation project after What If…? It will be available August 10, 2022 on Disney+.
