Global 1440p support is rolling out to PlayStation 5 today

1440p support for PlayStation 5 is no longer in beta and is starting to roll out worldwide today. This is ideal for gamers using 1440p screens. Well, almost perfect.

1440p only supports 60Hz and 120Hz outputs, variable refresh rate (VRR) is not available. VRR is only supported for 1080p and 2160p modes.

Aside from resolution changes, this update allows “game lists” or simply folder placement. You can create up to 15 game lists with up to 100 items per list (this list can be disc, digital, and streaming games).

Plus, this update makes it easier to undo during a game by showing you the last activity you were involved in when you last played. And if you want to try out 3D audio, it’s now easier to switch between that and standard stereo audio to see which one you like more.

A new feature is available in the preview: YouTube search via voice commands. You can say “Hey PlayStation, find YouTube” and the YouTube app will appear and do a search (even while gaming). Note that this is only available in English and only for PS5 players registered in the US and UK at this time (again, this is a preview).

These are the new features rolling out today, but major upgrades to the PS app for Android and iOS are planned for later this month.

When the app receives the update, you’ll be able to play your PS Remote Play session right from your phone or tablet, just make sure your PlayStation 5 is in rest mode.

Additionally, the PS app will let you request a screen-sharing session from your friends so you can watch them play (or to help coordinate).
