Frozen Four: Yaniv Peretz and Quinnipiac are champions

The Qinnipiac Bobcats scored a stunning overtime win to clinch the US college hockey national title.

Jacob Quillan was the hero just 10 seconds into overtime to claim his first team title with a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the Frozen Four final.

John Mittelstadt and Jackson Nelson gave Minnesota a 2-0 lead going into the final.

Quebec’s Christophe Tellier closed the gap midway through the period for Quinnipiac. After a great save by Quebec’s Yaniv Peretz in the third period, one of his 13 of the game, the Bobcats capitalized on a power play with less than five minutes left.

Colin Graf had a great chance, but his one-time shot was saved by Justin Close. He recovered after a few moments. The Bobcats had pulled a goaltender with three minutes left on the clock, and Graf tied the game by driving the ball deep into the net.

Since the initial overtime break, the Bobcats have dealt the killing blow to allow coach Rand Rickknold to enjoy the national title. Zach Metsa and Sam Lipkin set the table for Quilan, who skillfully beat the Minnesota goalie to get the festivities started.
