The soundscape is successful, and the dialogues, sometimes humorous, sometimes serious, have a convincing French version. In addition, the scenario seen during this preview makes you want to find out more about all the mysteries that surround this fantasy universe.

Technically, the title appears error-free. In fact, the version under development, which we were on, works perfectly fine, without the slightest problem to report.

Magic is at the heart of the game

Utilizing superpowers with a bracelet (similar to Miss Marvel), our heroine’s mechanics are based around two main axes.

First of all, the combat magic that allows the heroine to attack and defend herself effectively thanks to a set of spells on the operators. Getting started takes a little getting used to, but once you get there, you’ll enjoy combining all of these techniques. Especially since by perfecting them better and better, we see greater fluidity in battles.

Then, the magical parkour that allows Frey to quickly and easily make her way through the obstacles that will stand in front of her. It gives a real impression of speed, and it also offers the ability to dodge enemy attacks in the blink of an eye in order to take advantage of them.

As we progressed, the feeling in the game became generally good, with adaptive triggers responding correctly to our actions. And this, even if the on-screen buildup of spells and effects can make battles a little messy at times.

Furthermore, who says Action-RPG, says leveling up with skill trees that allow new skills to be unlocked in order to create increasingly dynamic and diverse gameplay during the adventure.

However, with the exception of the bosses, the encounters didn’t strike us as very serious, with no real moment of danger to the main character’s life during this preview…but there are certainly other, more difficult difficulty levels. Especially since the environment lends itself (all things considered) to a Souls-like game style, with places to rest and replenish your life, limited potions to heal yourself during encounters, and large-scale staged boss fights.

If the gameplay is fun during the chapters played, it remains very fragmented by textual stages. Although common to this style of Japanese game, we were under the impression of being spectators rather than actors on this long journey through the beginnings of the game. and may this change through the seasons, leaving a free course for our desires to deliver from evil all the people who live in these regions.

See the little subtleties

In addition to the graphics engine and game mechanics, there are some elements that are confirmed to be in Forspoken.

There is a consumables and equipment crafting system, item customization, chests to discover, as well as ability mods through “nail polish” to find within Athena’s territory, etc.

Also, the open world seems huge at first glance, with diverse lands when it comes to environments and monsters.

Can’t wait for next year

These few hours of the game turned out to be somewhat decisive, both in terms of visual aspects and scripts, and in the gameplay itself.

Having gone into this preview with no prior on the game, this short experience was a lot of fun, leaving us really wanting to discover the rest of the plot and try out new combinations, while exploring these fantasy-filled lands.

In a month and a half, we will be able to discover as far as the eye can see what these lands have in store for us.

It’s been pushed back twice already in order to improve it, and the only hope remains is that this third release date will be the right one. Especially since all the signs seem green after such a very strong look on so many levels.

In order to verify whether or not these first impressions are confirmed, we are of course giving you a date next year during testing and opinion on the final version of “Forspoken”.
