Create a disposable email address

Many free web services require registration and require you to provide an email address. This is often used to confirm your registration…but not only. In fact, linked to name, age and some other personal data such as location, for example, this email address increases in value and can be resold to other services that can then shower you with advertising messages or spam. Also, when you want to try a new website or service that requires registration, it’s best to provide a disposable address. Valid for a limited time, it will allow you to access the desired site and evaluate its reliability without revealing the email address that you use on a daily basis. And if the tested site or service is finally useful to you, nothing will prevent you from modifying the address you indicated during registration to present your real email this time.

How does a disposable email address work?

Disposable or temporary mail services have been around for a long time. They appeared to counter the practice of spam (unsolicited advertising mail). All based on a simple method. This includes providing the user with an ephemeral email address that ranges from a few minutes to a month old. Obviously, it is not necessary to register to take advantage of it. The service provides a domain name (eg @yopmail.com) and lets you specify the address of your choice. No password required. And since it’s a real email, you can check if the mail arrived at that address. This is convenient when a confirmation email is sent with a clickable link to validate your registration. When you no longer need this address, it is automatically deleted from the disposable mail service. It no longer exists! You can create many titles for free. And if you ever need to get your hands on the person you selected to register on a site or forum for example, just re-create them in the same way. Warning: The address generated in this way is not password locked. Also, any user who knows will be able to access the contents of the inbox.

There are many temporary or disposable email services out there. The most famous of the rest is YopMail but you can also count on TrashMail (literally trash mail in French) which offers a valid email address for free for one month, MailDrop which only keeps a maximum of ten messages in the inbox or 10minuteMail which for its part, delivers a valid dummy address For only 10 minutes (or 20 minutes on request).

How to create an ephemeral email address with YopMail?

Available in a French interface, YopMail is easy to use and offers many practical options. Here, addresses are not really created or deleted. Messages containing them are only deleted after eight days.

Open your usual web browser and go to the YopMail website. Specify in the yellow field on the left the email address you would like to use. For example, use the name of the site or service you need with a fictitious address followed by your first name [email protected] Then click the Check Mails button.

If everything is in order, a new page appears showing an empty mailbox. Conversely, if your inbox contains messages, that means someone else has already used that address. It is recommended to imagine a new one in order to avoid any misunderstandings.

YopMail also provides a unique alias for each incoming mail. So you can use it instead of your YopMail address for your recordings and not reveal your YopMail address. Messages sent to this alias are forwarded to your YopMail. But it is impossible to find out the contents of the inbox only by nickname. This is listed at the top left of the page, below the YopMail address you set. Select it and copy it to the clipboard (Ctrl + C on Windows or Cmd + C on macOS).

You can now use this alias as an email address to register on a website, online service or forum for example.

Warning: YopMail sometimes has a bad reputation. Some websites limit and reject yopmail addresses. To counter this mishap, the service offers several different areas. You can thus modify the @yopmail.fr address by preferring domains such as @cool.fr.nf, @jetable.fr.nf, @nospam.ze.tc, @nomail.xl.cx, @mega.zik.dj or even @ speed.1s.fr. The list of domains available on the YopMail homepage is located in the bottom right pane below the mention of alternative domains. All mail sent to your address, regardless of the domain name you chose, will land in the inbox of your original YopMail address.
