One person was killed and four others were injured in what became known as Sunday’s shooting at a church in California, Orange County police said.
“Four people were seriously injured,” police wrote on their Twitter account, adding that “one victim of the incident died at the scene.”
According to law enforcement, an emergency call was received from the Geneva Presbyterian Church on Sunday afternoon at 1:26 pm (8:26 pm GMT).
“We have arrested one person and recovered a firearm,” the sheriff’s office said in a tweet, noting the motives behind the new shooting at this point.
Orange County firefighters and paramedics are “on the scene to treat many patients,” the local fire department said.
California Governor Gavin Newsom said the office is working with local authorities and monitoring the situation.
“No one should be afraid to go to their places of worship. Our thoughts are with the victims, ”his office tweeted.
Katie Porter, a Democratic congresswoman representing Orange County in Washington, D.C., tweeted, “This is shocking and confusing news, especially within a day of the mass shooting in Buffalo.”
“It should not be our new normal.”
According to the sheriff’s office, the church is located in Laguna Woods, about 70 kilometers southwest of Los Angeles.
