We’ve been talking a lot about the Silent Hill series lately, because many rumors indicate that a new adaptation of the saga will be in the pipeline alongside Konami. Obviously, nothing has been confirmed yet, but the simple fact that the Japanese company tried to bring Silent Hill back to life during the 2000s (along with PT and Hideo Kojima) is enough to give these statements a certain aura.. After all, for now, we can only go back to the past with regard to this amazing license that would have marked a lot of teens, just like Resident Evil. And that’s good: This week, Silent Hill 2, the favorite compilation of many players, turns 20!
Silent Hill 2 was launched on September 24, 2001 in North America, before arriving in Japan on September 27. However, in Europe we must be patient: the game will not be available to us until a few weeks later, on November 23, 2001. Directly, the game is necessary for fans of the first opus, already occupied, but also for beginners: in fact, it is not necessary to have played the first game to understand the synopsis of the episode.. We follow the story of James Sunderland, who does not understand how his late wife was able to send him a letter asking him to join her instead of the couple. Quickly, in an attempt to clear his confusion, James travels to the town of Silent Hill, and will have to deal with a whole host of nightmares. Between psychological horror and adventure, Silent Hill 2 also benefits from gameplay that has not changed much compared to the first game in the series. However, it stands out for its more immersive history and iconic enemies.
Since Silent Hill 2 received rave reviews: it was noticed by the press upon its release, it had excellent reviews in all major magazines of the time.. IGN gives him a 9/10, Eurogamer a 9/10, Famitso a 34/40. Overall, the game today has an average rating of 89/100 on Metacritic for its PS2 version, making it one of the best games in the platform’s history. Inevitably, this critical reception prompts many players to rush towards it: In the first month after release, Silent Hill 2 has sold over a million copies in North America, Japan and Europe. Even today, he is one of the references of this genre.
