Decayed by injuries, the Montreal Canadiens proceeded with an emergency call-up for young forward Owen Beck of the Ontario Junior League.
Beck, a second-round pick in the last draft, had been playing with the Peterborough Petes for a few weeks, after being acquired by the Mississauga Steelheads. Scored three points in seven games with his new lineup.
A tackle specialist known for his versatility and speed, Beck made an excellent first impression during Habs training camp in September.
He also recently helped Canada win gold at the World Junior Hockey Championships.
HBS must deal without the services of several forwards, including Cole Cofield, Sean Monahan, Joel Armia, Jake Evans, Brendan Gallagher and Juraj Slavkowski. Kristian Dvorak, Kirby Dash and Nick Suzuki were lost on Friday during morning practice.
Beck could play his first NHL game on Saturday, when CH visits Ottawa to take on the Senators.
