(Washington) On Friday, the US Air Force unveiled a new color scheme for Air Force One, the plane used by the President of the United States, revealing that Joe Biden had abandoned the plane chosen by his predecessor, Donald Trump.
For the two planes under construction, Biden chose light blue and white, classic colors introduced by John F. Kennedy more than six decades ago.
Donald Trump, who left office in January 2021, wanted to change the color of future devices, and chose red, white and dark blue. He had a model of the futuristic plane in these colors on a coffee table in the Oval Office.
Mr Trump’s plan called for a red stripe in the middle of the plane and a dark blue one in the bottom of it, a reference to the American flag.
These new colors have posed technical problems for engineers, however, and an Air Force statement on Friday indicated potential delays and trials to achieve the required dark blue hue.
So the new Air Force One will look like the current one, although the blue color will be “a little more modern” and there will be no brushed metal on the fuselage “because modern commercial aircraft paint alloys don’t allow it.” .
The term Air Force One is used to refer to two different presidential aircraft. On the plane, the president can exercise all the powers of his mandate while in the air, including launching a nuclear strike.
It is equipped with the latest navigation and defense systems, such as anti-missile system and anti-explosion object, and has a medical area.
Deliveries of the new aircraft are expected in 2027 and 2028 and the winner of the 2024 presidential ballot will be the first to board.
The statement said that the current operating aircraft will be flown until that date despite the high maintenance costs and aging parts.
