AHL: The Rockets start their journey on the right foot with a 5-2 win over the Comets

Anthony Richard scored a goal and made three assists as the Laval Rockets beat the Utica Comets 5-2 Wednesday night for their second win in their last five games.

The Montreal Canadiens scholastic club took the opportunity to beat their opponents of the day in the penultimate rank of the Northern Division.

The Rockets (9-13-4) started their longest road trip of the year with four games in one week, scoring three consecutive first-period goals. He won despite being limited to 23 shots on Mackenzie Blackwood. At the other end, Kevin Bolin blocked 31 pucks.

In addition, the Rockets left the North Division cellar and doubled the Comets (8-9-4) into sixth place with 22 points, two more than the Comets, who have five games in the bank.

It’s also Rocket’s third victory in as many attempts, barely in a month, on Comets ice.

On November 11, the Rockets won 5-4, in overtime, thanks to a goal by Richard. Then, on November 30, Laval’s side secured another overtime victory, this time with a score of 3-2, thanks to the decisive net of defender Corey Schoenemann.

Lucas Condota set the tone after just 54 seconds of play.

Joel Tisdale finally scored his first goal of the season in 14 games with an accurate shot from the top to double the lead.

Alex Pelzel then scored Rocket’s only power play goal on four occasions. Richard collected his second assist of the game, bringing his points total to 31 to sit as the team’s leading scorer and climb to second among all MLS players.

Less than a minute later, Samuel LaBerge put the Comets on the board away from a man by taking advantage of a loose puck to escape, then Quebec got back on the charge early in the third period to put his own on the shot.

However, the Rockets took over from a 2-goal lead when Mitchell Stephens kicked home, again assisted by Richard, who put the finishing touches to their 4-point night into an empty net.

The Rocket will play their next two games, Saturday and Sunday, in Cleveland.
