Like the previous day, the Rocket thought it would cause general surprise with a late return. But without an offensive penalty shootout contribution, Laval finally conceded defeat 2-1 after 11 rounds of shooting against the Rockford IceHogs.
After making 27 saves on 28 shots in the game, Kayden Primo made nine of the first 10 players he faced in the shootout. The Miracles were lacking before a Morgan Adams-Moissan shot in the 11th round. Anthony Richard is the only Rocket player to score in the session.
Like Friday night against the Americans, LaValle hit a late run through Mitchell Stephens to tie the game and send everyone into overtime. However, Laval’s efforts were not enough.
The first goal of the game was scored by Pavel Gogolev of the IceHogs. Midway through the first half, Gogolev redirected an Andy Wilenskiy shot into the net to open the scoring with his first MLS goal of the season.
A replica of the missile has been long overdue. With 44 seconds left in the third period, Stevens took advantage of the puck bouncing off Joel Tisdale’s skate to drive the puck down the net and send everyone into overtime.
The IceHogs came close to ending the game midway through overtime. However, in two consecutive streaks, Primo’s strong and honest was important. Laval missed a chance to score soon after that despite a solid play and lack of opportunism cost him the game.
Arvid Soderblom made 44 saves in the IceHogs win.
