QMJHL Finalist: One win away from first title since 1976

Halifax | The Quebec Remparts are one win away from winning their first QMJHL Final since 1976.

In a tough game tonight at the Scotiabank Center, the Remparts beat the Halifax Mooseheads 2-1 to take a 3-1 lead in the QMJHL Final Series. They will have the opportunity to lift the Gilles Corto Trophy on Friday in Quebec during Game Five.

After surviving two penalties in the third period, the Remparts took a 2-1 lead on a Théo Rochette big game that helped Zachary Bolduc break the deadlock. Matteo Russo couldn’t do anything about the sequence.

Mooseheads are not allowed to aim

The Mooseheads in the first dominate the tide in the second. The hosts thought they had leveled the game when Marcos Vidicek beat Willem Rosso, but after watching the replay, the referees disallowed the goal due to a handball from Alexandre Doucet.

The Mooseheads didn’t give up and eventually tied the game up with an Evan Boucher run. Russo made some good saves to keep the tie.

With five seconds left, Zachary Bolduc could have given the Rimbers the lead when he single-handedly got in front of Matisse Rousseau who closed the door for the third time.

The Remparts got off to a fast start as head coach Patrick Roy wanted. In the first minute of the match, Pierre-Olivier Roy arrived alone in front of Mochad’s goalkeeper, but his shot was stopped on the post.

The Remparts continued to shock the home defense. Théo Rochette opened the scoring with a shot from the hole. The dominance continued as Justin Robidas missed the target on a breakaway and was thwarted seconds later by Matisse Rosso.

To the cheers of the crowd, the Mooseheads got their first shot after 6:15. Remparts led 20-6 in the shootout, but Russo had his best moment in the final to keep his side in the match.

Absent Mark

Mooseheads were denied two important pieces. Hit hard by Nathan Gaucher on Tuesday, forward Zachary Laurieux missed Game 4, as did linebacker David Moravec. Remparts provided the same alignment as in the third meeting.

The Mooseheads lost another big chunk in the first. After another tough check from Gaucher, Attilio Biasca returned to the seat with a grimace. The Swiss striker tried to come back but retired to the dressing room and we were never seen again. The team confirmed an upper-body injury.

The match is delayed

The match started fifteen minutes late. An amateur casualty victim who required paramedics was left on a stretcher. A similar scene occurred this past January during Remparts’ recent visit to the Scotiabank Centre.
