A man who wanted to celebrate his divorce by performing a bungee jump fell 21 meters when his rope broke.
And, most surprisingly, he survived.
Unlucky as he was in his ordeal, Rafael dos Santos Tosta fractured his neck and lumbar spine during a fall in the waters of Lagoa Azul, Campo Majro in Brazil.

“After the divorce, I wanted to enjoy life in every possible way. I was doing a lot of crazy things. I didn’t value my life,” Rafael told Parana RPC.
Currently undergoing intensive therapy to restore his resources, Rafael says, he has begun to take stock of life again.

“You start to see life and be grateful for everything. Not that I didn’t care about other people before, but I just didn’t see it that way.”
“My life will never be the same again. I don’t want to go back to being the Raphael that I used to be. I have to be grateful to be alive, which is very important indeed.”

Before his jump, he jokes that the rope cannot support his weight.
His mother did not want him to engage in this kind of activity.
Then he remembers waking up in the water, with people around him telling him not to move and telling him that help is coming.
“When I tried to get up, I remember feeling so much pain. I’ve never felt such pain in my life.”
After he fell, Rafael was stabilized by a medical team from the Military Police Air Operations Battalion and taken by helicopter to Rossio Hospital in Campo Largo, The Mirror reports.
