Australia will spend a total of more than A$7 billion to fund infrastructure for the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane. The state of Queensland in particular will spend A$2.7 billion (€1.7 billion) on a stadium redevelopment of its cricket ground, nicknamed “The Gabba”, which will increase its capacity to 50,000.
A new A$2.5 billion (€1.6 billion) 17,000-seat indoor stadium in Brisbane city center will be provided by the federal government. A further 1.87 billion (€1.2 billion), to be provided by state and central government, will be allocated to 16 new or modernized sites.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk added that 80% of the infrastructure for the Games was already in place. “It is clear that we must do our part to not only organize great games, but also to leave a lasting legacy for Queensland and all who visit this great state.”Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said.
This is Australia’s third time hosting the Olympic Games after Melbourne (1956) and Sydney (2000).
