Charles III visits Ukrainian soldiers who are undergoing training in England

(LONDON) King Charles III paid a visit to Ukrainian soldiers training with the British army on Monday, expressing his “admiration” for them as the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine approaches.

Although the British royal family does not meddle in political affairs, its key members have stepped out of their reserve on several occasions over the past year, through personal donations, refugee visits or when the King received Volodymyr Zelensky at Buckingham Palace in early February.

The king visited a military outpost in the southwest of England. The training was witnessed by Ukrainians, mostly civilians who had joined the army with no military experience, who trained to storm trenches, as part of a five-week course.

“You’re incredible,” he told one of the officers, “I don’t know how you do it, I’m so impressed.”

Since last summer, around 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been trained in the UK and the British Army plans to train an additional 20,000 soldiers this year.
