It’s years and years of Halo multiplayer adventures and experiences. From Halo 2 to Halo 5: Guardians. But on my Xbox 360 I played the most hours of adventures in the universe that Bungie created. That’s why I look at today’s news with sadness, because although I know it was inevitable, it’s still a sad point for me.
We learned that servers for the Xbox 360 version of Halo will be shutting down soon. The 343 Industries date in mind was December of this year. But that has changed since the studio decided to give the issue an extra month.
Goodbye to Halo servers on Xbox 360
It probably won’t affect you at all if you’re no longer a gamer on your old Microsoft console. But if you’re still playing it, know that the change is irreversible: You will no longer be able to access 360 servers for all Halo games as of January 13, 2022.
Although the reasons for the closure are clear, they were already made clear in December 2022.
So far, we’ve aligned work and priorities to move forward with the ongoing maintenance of legacy Xbox 360 services from Halo. Maintaining these legacy services today takes a lot of time and resources, which directly affects the studio’s ability to support current and future projects such as Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Halo Infinite.
Decide that you’ll be able to play every Halo online thanks to the version of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, the only thing shutting it down are the old versions’ servers, so if you have an Xbox One, Xbox Series or PC, you don’t have to worry.
Originally, Halo Xbox 360 online services were scheduled to end in December. This date has been pushed back to January 13, 2022. The affected games will remain playable indefinitely, but some experiences will be affected. Please see https://t.co/kkuZZrjHA2 for a full explanation. https://t.co/ymRfD3IMaM
